Local Activities

Golf

Golf is a feature around the East Sutherland nuke with courses at Brora, Golspie and Dornoch worth a visit. The Brora golf course was designed by the world famous James Braid, quaintly at Brora we have protected greens and tees because, due to an old legal arrangement, cattle and sheep are permitted to graze on the fairways so it’s a very idyllic situation where you see golfers teeing off alongside cows chewing the cud, but they are largely friendly!

Castle of Mey

For a bolder traveller we have the appeal of the Castle of Mey on the north coast of Scotland, where Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother visited every year before her death. The Castle is now open to the public in season and again opening hours should be checked in advance of your visit. The Prince of Wales is a regular attendee at this venue.

Clynelish Whisky Distillery

Brora is a village with a long history of industrial processes including coal production, brick building and, more latterly, tweed manufacture. The only surviving industry in the area focuses on the Clynelish Distillery which is world famous for its Clynelish brand and this distillery is located on the A9 heading north of the village

Dunrobin Castle

There are many places to visit in and around Brora, and Dunrobin Castle, which is the seat of the Clan Sutherland, located just outside Golspie, and 10 minutes from Summer Cottage, is a must.
